QMT Director nominated for Pride of Australia Awards
Brisbane Muslim community volunteer worker, father and grandfather Dr Sadek Mustapha, who migrated to Australia from South Africa in 1975, has been nominated for the Pride of Australia Awards.
Dr Mustapha said “It is a great honour to be nominated for the award and I am humbled.”
What inspires you to dedicate time and effort into volunteer work?
My conscious dictates that I owe others time, effort and money for the uplifting
of the less fortunate people. There has been appeals for orphan children from various
sectors; for instance Human Appeal, The Fijian orphans, the South African orphans,
the disabled and injured children, in particular in Palestine, Lebanon and Afghanistan.
Do you feel that there is enough time rendered for the needy and the destitute?
Unfortunately, in these so called busy times, we find that the volunteers to do work
are hard to come by.
What would you recommend for the immediate future?
I feel that our attitude have to change and whatever time we can give, money that
we can spare, and the efforts that we dedicate should be harnessed in the community
and we should uplift the people in need. Especially when we are blessed by Allah
Almighty with all the comforts, time and health, then it is our duty to assert and
render services for others rather than just ourselves.
Dr Mustapha concluded by
saying that "my community work and the continuation of Queensland Muslim Times has
been strongly supported by the many generous individuals in our society, for which
I am very thankful."
