About Queensland Muslim Times

Just before Ramadan of 2004 six people, Aslam Nabi, Ismael Jangda, Saaid Salie and Dr Sadeq Mustapha, Dr Shabbir Hussain and Din Karim set out to plan and to design the format of first registered Muslim newspaper in Queensland.

Thus, the not - for- profit community newspaper Queensland Muslim Times was born.

Initial financial and moral support came from two prominent Brisbane Muslim families. Advertisers, seeing the benefits from the newspaper’s potential circulation joined in support and have continued to offer that support over the last five years.

The paper's first objective was and still is to provide a useful information service to the Muslim community as well as providing the greater Australian community with a true understanding of the ideals and philosophies of the Muslim community.

The Queensland Muslim Times is a bi- monthly newspaper. The copy primarily covers Brisbane and a few of the major cities in Queensland and copies are to be found in mosques and throughout retail outlets in the two capital cities.

Your newspaper’s 25.000 readership covers all age brackets as well as a broad base of the Multicultural community. Naturally its pre-dominant readership comprises the local Australian Muslim community, but it also includes an increasingly growing migrant population from Egypt, Algeria, the Middle East, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Fiji, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey and many other parts of the world. Your newspaper is also read throughout New Zealand Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

The founding members of your newspaper form the directorship and they are: Aslam Nabi, a retired business man and a pioneer in the Gold Coast Muslim community. Ismael Jangda brought his expertise as a businessman and as an accountant and took care of the financial affairs – but later resigned due to other work commitment. Saaid Salie, a retired teacher with his education expertise assisted the paper in editorial content. He was also the first editor. Dr Sadeq Mustapha is a retired medical doctor, whose vast knowledge of the Muslim community allowed him to be a valuable member of the directorship.

The current team comprises of Aslam Nabi; Saaid Sali; Habib Jamal, who is an accountant who takes care of your newspaper's financial and administrative affairs; Dr Sadeq Mustapha is the current advertising manager who is assisted by Farah Suleman; Rehana Bibi who is the editor in chief with a substantial background in print journalism. Rehana is assisted by assistant editors Kawthar Girach and Sarah Mehmet.

The newspaper continues to support and participate in community activities and events such as health awareness seminars, Crescents walk, sporting activities, youth workshops, charity fundraisers and art exhibitions. The future promises greater community involvement. A website will shortly be available so that our online readers can enjoy the newspaper as well. The newspaper's ultimate goal is to develop a monthly Muslim newspaper that would be distributed nationally, providing a platform for the Muslim community not only in Queensland but Australia wide.

Queensland Muslim Times would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our supports, advertisers, readers and contributors.
